High roller! Katharine McPhee goes from curlers to expertly coiffed on the set of Smash

For most women getting caught with their hair in curlers would be cringe worthy, but for perennially chipper Katharine McPhee it is just another opportunity to smile and wave at fans.
And the 28-year-old was caught in rollers not once, but twice, in New York on Wednesday.

But it was not that the stunning brunette was just being lazy, the actress was back to work on the set of her hit show Smash.
The former American Idol runner up first donned a flapper inspired look for the day's shoot.
The leg flashing outfit featured a super short beaded mini dress with a green trench coat and t-bar heels.

With her hair pinned back, her make up artist expertly applied Roaring Twenties inspired hues to the 28-year-old's face including a deep red lip colour.
With her hair released from rollers to reveal a silver screen siren worthy waved bob, Katharine was all smiles as she walked along the street waving to fans.
With an assistant holding an umbrella to stop her hair getting wet, Katharine mutil-tasked and drank her morning coffee - through a straw, of course, to avoid ruining her lipstick.

I do not heart NYC: At first the star was not happy about moving to New York to film Smash but she has learned to love the city

Obviously the long hours of the shoot were tiring for the star as she had yet another large Starbucks coffee in her hand after changing to her second look.
Far more casual than her ultra glamorous flapper dress, but still showing off her slender legs, the singer turned actress wore a peach knitted jumper over a navy and white long sleeved t-shirt with tight blue skinny jeans and ankle boots.
Once again the star had to emerge publicly with her hair pinned up in curls, which were far tighter this time.

With the Smash now in its second season, Katharine is fast shaping up as one of the most successful Idol contestants.
Despite not winning her season of Idol, Katharine's career has been going strength to strength.
The young star has confessed however, when she first signed on to Smash she found it hard as she had to move from California to New York.

'I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but I hated living in New York for the first six months,' she told Seventeen magazine in a recent interview.
However she has learnt to love it.
'I couldn't really put my finger on it. There’s so much diversity on the streets here. You get to leave work behind when you leave; not everyone is an actor.'
